The research of the pipeline diameter impact on the shock wave propagation in emergency situations

The ensuring of ecological safety of pipeline transport of hydrocarbon energy carriers is one of the priority objectives
in oil and gas industry. The main gas pipelines present the heightened danger. In case of main gas pipelines
failure, a shock wave becomes one of the damaging factors. With a large energy content, the shock wave is dangerous
for unprotected people and environment. The impact pressure decreases with the increase of distance from the
explosion epicentre.
The change of the excess pressure in case of the shock wave with consideration of the pipeline diameter, time
and distance from the pipe fault location was studied. The analysis of pressure distribution in time beyond the explosion
limits was conducted and safe zones were defined.
