Ecological aspects in gas production from untraditional reservoirs

Abstract

Due to the fact, that demand for hydrocarbon energy resources is constantly growing, there is a need to
conduct oil and gas exploration on a more frequent basis not only in traditional oil reservoirs, but also in shales
and shale argillites, which were earlier considered only as the roof rocks. The above-mentioned issue stipulated the
necessity to perform research in the West Ukrainian bitumen-oil-and-gas bearing region, taking into account ecological
conditions of shale gas production. The ecological aspect is of a paramount importance for the western
region of Ukraine. A great number of negative consequences of this type of hydrocarbon production were studied to
prevent possible adverse effect of industrial activities and minimize their impact on the environment.
